Paul D. Thompson, MD, was named president and Barry A. Franklin, PhD, was named president-elect of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), based in Indianapolis. Their 1-year terms begin in June at the ACSM meeting in Orlando. Thompson is director of preventive cardiology at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut, and professor of medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. Franklin is director of cardiac rehabilitation and exercise laboratories at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, and professor of physiology at Wayne State University in Detroit. He will become ACSM president at the 1999 annual meeting in Seattle. Both Thompson and Franklin are editorial board members of The Physician and Sportsmedicine.
