For $10, a runner submits a questionnaire, an outline of his or her foot, and results of the "wet step" test. In return, the ARFA sorts through the database for every shoe sold in the US that meets the runner's needs and makes recommendations. Physicians can obtain copies of brochures from the ARFA that explain how to use the database and provide shoe shopping tips. Individual copies of the brochure are free; send a self-addressed stamped (55¢) envelope to the ARFA at 4405 East West Hwy, Suite 405, Bethesda, MD 20814-4535. Multiple copies can be ordered at 1-800-776-ARFA (2732).
